V8 SUPERCARS has released its 2016 calendar, one hailed by the category’s chief as the most exciting the sport has seen.
The championship will include an international date for the first time since 2013, V8 Supercars rubber-stamping the sport’s first points-paying race in Malaysia at the KL City Grand Prix in August.
The overseas race marks one of several significant changes to the sport’s schedule, which will see the championship compressed to a period of 38 weeks with many races separated by just two weeks.

“Certainly I think it’ll be a big win for our fans,” James Warburton, V8 Supercars CEO, said.
“The fans, our drivers and our teams have been calling for more consistency, so what we see here is either two or three-week gaps, at the absolute maximum, between events; a four-week winter break; (and) an additional event with Kuala Lumpur coming in.”
